Conception generates first early human eggs from stem cells
Conception has produced the first early-stage human eggs (oocytes) derived from induced pluripotent stem cells reprogrammed from a patient's blood cells, which were then guided to form miniature human ovaries called ovaroids. The process requires only a simple blood draw, bypassing the hormonal injections and surgeries currently required for IVF egg retrieval. Healthy mice have previously been born using this approach, and while significant safety and efficacy work remains before human clinical use, the milestone marks a major advance in in vitro gametogenesis (IVG). If validated, this technology could make fertility treatments far less invasive, extend the reproductive window for women, and serve as a research platform for menopause and aging.
