DOE — $215M Quantum Genesis Q for 100+ logical qubits
The U.S. Department of Energy launched the Quantum Genesis Q Competition with up to $215 million to demonstrate the first fault-tolerant scientifically relevant quantum computers. Private-sector applicants must propose systems with at least 100 logical qubits capable of hundreds of millions of fault-tolerant operations, targeting chemistry, materials, physics, and applied math. Phase I offers up to $1.5 million per awardee; Phase II includes a $100 million pool plus $50 million bonuses for 150 and 200 logical qubits. A companion $45 million National Lab testbed will validate hardware, gates, architectures, and algorithms. It matters because it funds public-private deployment of machines meant to tackle currently intractable scientific problems.
