Waymo 10.4x safer than humans after 25.3M autonomous miles
Swiss Re analyzed liability claims from 25.3 million fully autonomous miles driven by Waymo and found an 88% reduction in property-damage claims and a 92% reduction in bodily-injury claims versus human drivers, equating to 10.4 times overall safer performance. Waymo’s safety factor has grown at a 16.9% compound annual rate since 2009. The company, which began as Google’s self-driving project, now runs robotaxi service in Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles with expansion planned. The data shows autonomous driving is already delivering measurably safer roads at scale.
